Categories of Caring Community Boy Scouts of America, Cherokee Area Council Instilling values and skills for life by providing character development, active citizenship, leadership training, personal fitness, community service and outdoor experiences for youth ages 6 - 20. Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Exploring, Venturers and Learning for Life are a part of the Council's services. Through hands-on learning activities and community involvement, 4-Hers develop and strengthen life skills. Provides a variety of services for adults age 60 or older including hot lunches, health monitoring, field trips, art classes, crafts, and social services. The center also provides outreach and information/referral services. Doris Benton, 775-0303 Rhea Count Adult Literacy Council This Council supports the adult education program by providing teachers through the summer, materials, busing, child care, tutor training materials, incentive programs, and equipment such as computers. An Adult Development Center and Sheltered Workshop which offers a program with goals and objectives in areas of functional academics, communications, special health and physical sensorimotor, vocational vocational development, and housing with 24 hour staffing. Mike Brewer, 775-4855 Families in Crisis Avalon Center Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Program Provides free and confidential services including emergency shelter, court advocacy, counseling, support groups, and community education programs. Walter Ring, 775-4333 Women's Care Center Cares for women of all ages, religions, and races. Our services include: pregnancy testing, infant care, clothing, 24-hour helpline, and post-abortion support. Services are free. Offers kidney patients and families transportation, medicine, food and nutritional supplements, assists in public education, prevention, diagnosis and treatment of kidney disease.
